Samsung Galaxy S II “May 1st” UK Release: Retailers Listed

Just a few days ago, we brought you news that Samsung’s Galaxy S II (S2) smartphone would indeed be released this month despite news that it may be launched sometime in June. This was reported from the horse’s mouth as it were, with a message on Twitter from Samsung saying “Samsung Galaxy S II will be first released in April, as planned and it will be gradually rolled out in each market according to the local launch timetable.”

Tying in nicely with this, news has come in of the UK market receiving the Galaxy S II on May 1st. As Engadget reported, the phone can be enjoyed across all the big networks and retailers.

The slim, light handset including a Super AMOLED Plus screen, the first for Samsung will enable customers a fantastic viewing experience with clear crisp images as well as the Plus feature saving energy, leading to increased battery life. The Galaxy S II will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and comes complete with a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU.

Including the 1.2GHz CPU which has only just been upped from the original 1GHz, it will serve as a quick platform for loading and browsing of websites such as Google and YouTube whilst giving you, the user the benefit of switching between various apps. Gaming and playing of videos has been made easy with the input of 3D hardware, and as well as this, connectivity can be accessed through the WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 facility.

If this wasn’t enough to tickle your taste buds, then the new Samsung will feature a 8MP camera with 1080p High Definition recording and playback, accessibility to social networking sites, Live Panel which basically means that you can aggregate live web, social networking and app contents to one customisable home screen, AllShare technology allowing you to share movies, music and photos with other devices as well as Kies Air which can manage your smartphone content straight from the PC via local WiFi connectivity and so on.

Over at theinquirer.net, it has been reported that the Galaxy S II will be available from many retailers including Play.com from 6th May for a price of £499.99 SIM free, Clove.co.uk have also listed the handset on their site with a pre-order price of £528 but unfortunately no concrete release date has been set, and Expansys.com have listed the Samsung in the same pricing bracket as Play.com with a reduction from £629.99.
