Year’s biggest garage sale a treasure trove for bargain-hunters

LIVERPOOL bargain-hunters will hope to find one man’s trash is another man’s treasure at the nation’s biggest garage sale this weekend.

Garage doors across Liverpool will open this Sunday for the Garage Sale Trail which will see thousands of garage sales held all over the country.

The event began in Bondi last year to help combat the problem of illegal dumping.

This year at least 30 council areas, including Liverpool, will take part.

Twelve sites in the Liverpool area have already been plotted on the official website including the Reclaim the Garage Sale in Casula, Bargains Ahoy in Chipping Norton, Nan’s Treasures in Liverpool and the No Trash, Just Treasure Sale in Moorebank.

Items listed for sale include clothing, books, toys, furniture, sporting equipment, a piano and “all the stuff we should have sold before we moved”.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the Garage Sale Trail was a great way to encourage sustainable living by reusing and recycling unwanted household items.

“Residents don’t need to have a garage, they can just set up in the front yard or join up with their neighbours,” Cr Waller said.
