House across from ND gates listed for $900k – WNDU

It’s the closest home you can buy near Notre Dame’s Golden Dome.

Right now, after nearly 20 years, the house at Notre Dame Avenue and Angela Boulevard is for sale. But the house doesn’t come cheap.

Although other houses in the neighborhood have sold for an easy, high six figures, nothing has been quite this high.

The house is just across from the campus entrance. The asking price for this one is $900,000.

“It’s not every day that you get an opportunity to list a landmark such as this,” says Prudential realtor Bill Calahan.

Calahan was asked to sell it for a million. He says the high price all comes down to location.

He says, “That certainly has a lot to do with it, and it’s also a lifestyle.”

Because you would almost have to be a die-hard Notre Dame fan like the previous owners.

“They initially bought the home when their daughter was a freshman at the university and liked the area,” Calahan explains. “Being an alum, they liked the area when they went to school here, too.”

The front door of the home neighbors the gates leading to the Golden Dome. The house is much larger than it looks from the outside, with six bedrooms and five baths. Plus, as devote Catholics, the previous owners created their own chapel.

Since there are so many bedrooms and baths, the realtor thinks the house could be converted into a bed and breakfast. It even has a separate entrance to the basement, making it easier to allow extra guests in and out.

The realtor says they already sent letters to Regis Philbin and Phil Donahue to see if they are interested. The university has offered to buy the house, but at a much lower price.
