VILLAGERS in Mynydd Isa fighting against plans to demolish Wylfa House and replace it with seven detached homes say they are close to getting the house listed.

The Wylfa Hill Preservation Society, made up of disgruntled neighbours of county councillor Hillary McGuill, who owns the home and put forward the plans, invited Welsh heritage watchdog Cadw to see the house for themselves.

Sheila Naybour of the preservation society said: “Cadw came to survey the house after we sent them letters and photographs.

“They said it wasn’t worth Grade I listing, but it could be Grade II-listed.

“They have written to Flintshire County Council’s planning department.

“We are hoping it will be listed. The people of the village see it as a significant landmark in the area. It’s the first thing you see when you come up the hill to Mynydd Isa.”

If the 1930s house is listed it will mean it cannot be demolished, though some new houses could be built in the grounds.

Campaigners believe the development would ruin the character of the area and damage the environment.
