Greystanes shops put on market

GREYSTANES shops, one of the most complained-about sites in Holroyd, could see a better future with the property up for sale.

Receiver Ferrier Hodgson, appointed last year, has listed the Merrylands Rd property on the market as it tries to change its fortunes.

The former owner of the site, Goldana Investments and its director Michael Kwok, have secure debt of $23 million, according to Ferrier Hodgson.

Woolworths and Franklins are two of the biggest drawcards at the site, which has been listed as “largely set for redevelopment”.  The site has an average income of $2.43 million, and potential buyers are due to lodge offers by the end of the month.

For Holroyd mayor Peter Monaghan, the impending new ownership cannot come soon enough.

Shoppers and tenants have long complained to the council about rubbish, unsanitary toilets and fire hazards.

“I hope the new owners, whoever that may be, have a lot more cooperation and understanding in relation to the problems we’ve had,” he said.

“Particularly with fire safety, because that’s been a concern for the community.”
