Cary Grant’s former Palm Springs home is up for sale, listed at nearly $3 million, the Los Angeles Times is reporting.
The 19th century Spanish farmhouse replica was built between 1927 and 1930 in the Movie Colony neighborhood.
Called Las Palomas (the Doves), the house has whitewashed walls, hand-painted tile in the interiors and handmade terra-cotta roof tiles, the Times reports. The grounds include 100-year-old eucalyptus, palm and fruit trees.
Grant, who bought the home in 1954 and lived there for 20 years, played leading man roles in films that include “North by Northwest” (1959), “To Catch a Thief” (1955) and “Notorious” (1946). He died in 1986.
The property at 928 Avenida Palmas was designated a historic site by the Palm Springs City Council in January. The Desert Sun reported Dr. Jane Cowles Smith, a third-generation Palm Springs resident, spent 11 years restoring the estate.
“The Cary Grant Estate is probably the most outstanding example of one of the first Spanish estates in California,” said Smith, who bought the property in 1998 for $720,000. “I’m pleased to present it not for me, but for the history of Palm Springs.”
Jeff Hyland of Hilton Hyland, Beverly Hills, and Tyler Morgan of Pacific Union, Palm Springs, are reported to have the listing.
