Angel’s pursues Wolves prize

Richard Hannon believes Angel’s Pursuit is equally at home over the seven furlongs of the William Hill Lady Wulfruna Stakes at Wolverhampton as he is over shorter trips.

The four-year-old has run some solid races over six furlongs throughout his career and won a Listed race at Newbury last summer after finishing second in the Mill Reef as a juvenile.

There could be a question mark on stamina grounds as he has only run over the trip twice, but he has won over seven furlongs before and Hannon fancies his chances.

“Angel’s Pursuit is equally effective over six or seven furlongs, and he was very unlucky in his last two races at Lingfield and Kempton,” he told his website, www.richardhannonracing.tv.

“He flew home last time, having been denied a run, and though finishing only sixth was only beaten a length so, granted a clear passage over this extra furlong, he should be right there at the end.

“Hughesie (Richard Hughes) rode him in a breeze up the all-weather on Tuesday and the horse is in good form.”

Edward Lynam’s Duff travels over from Ireland and the County Meath handler said: “He’s in good form and we’re very hopeful. He likes the all-weather, although I’ve heard Wolverhampton can ride a bit slower, which wouldn’t be in his favour.

“He ran very well at Lingfield last time over six furlongs and he’s a better horse over seven. It looks a competitive enough race, but he should run well.”

Desert Creek is an interesting contender, having made the move from Sir Michael Stoute to David Nicholls.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager for owner Saeed Suhail, said: “David has done very well with similar horses in the past. He’s a good horse, but has been a bit difficult to win with. David says he has been working well, but he does feel he might just improve a little for the run.”
