Midtown offices are set to be created during the refurbishment of a Grade II-listed building in Holborn.
Located close to Holborn Tube Station, the 1921-built property will be upgraded, with the floor area to be increased by 15,600 sq m, BAM Construction revealed.
The building – Africa House – at 64-78 Kingsway, is already home to Wetherspoons and Ladbrokes, but the construction work will also create Midtown offices, which will be spread over the basement, the ground floor and floors one to eight.
Construction manager for BAM London Mike O’Donohoe said: “It’s a prized location for any London property owner and because of the listed status we will be taking great care of the listed parts of the building.”
The developers also want to secure a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method of ‘excellent’ for Africa House, to make the Midtown offices as sustainable as possible.
Meanwhile, developer Hines has started construction work on 67,000 sq ft of Midtown offices at 280 High Holborn.
