Barnsley Central may be regarded as a tight-knit community symbolising northern grit and industry but none of the nine March 3 by-election runners are listed as living there in the nominations statement.
Five – including Labour’s Dan Jarvis (Salisbury), Tory James Hockney (Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire) and Liberal Democrat Dominic Carman (Dulwich and West Norwood) – give addresses from southern England.
Monster Raving Loony Howling Laud Hope is listed as coming from Fleet, Hampshire, and independent Michael Val Davis from East Devon.
The remaining four can at least claim to live in Yorkshire, with English Democrats’ Kevin Riddiough and independent Tony Devoy down as resident in other parts of Barnsley Borough.
The BNP’s Enis Dalton gives an address further out in Doncaster North and Ukip’s Jane Collins one in the East Riding.
Labour sources said Mr Jarvis has pledged he will move to Barnsley.
