Architects have big plans for Knebworth House this summer

RISING British metal band Architects have big plans for the Sonisphere 2011 Festival at listed stately home Knebworth House this summer.

The recent Metal Hammer magazine cover stars were added to the Sonisphere line-up last month, joining American alt-rockers Weezer, heavy metal pioneers Diamond Head – who had a major influence on Friday night headliners Metallica – and raucous Aussie rockers Airbourne on the bill.

It will be the Brighton metalcore band’s first festival appearance in this country in support of new album The Here And Now.

Having played the Bohemia tent at the inaugural Sonisphere at Knebworth in 2009, frontman Sam Carter is stoked about returning to the legendary Hertfordshire rock venue – the gothic mansion of which is on English Heritage’s at risk register.

He said: “UK festivals are always a massive deal for us because it’s basically the biggest gathering of Architects fans we can play to, and this year you know it’s going to be special because the line-up for Sonisphere is insane.

“It’s also a big deal because it’ll be our first UK festival since our new record The Here And Now came out and that record was built for festivals.

“We’ll see everyone at Sonisphere 2011.”

Sonisphere Knebworth takes places from Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 10, with thrash metal’s Big 4, including legends Metallica, Scottish indie rockers Biffy Clyro and American metal titans Slipknot topping the bill.

Nu metal rap stars Limp Bizkit, goth rockers The Sisters of Mercy, Watford punk heroes Gallows, Gojira, InMe, Kids in Glass Houses, One Minute Silence, Protest the Hero and Volbeat were all added to the bill for the UK leg of the touring festival this week.
