A planned development of nine terraced houses in Melksham has been refused permission by Wiltshire Council.

Victoria Motors in Shurnhold had applied to turn the site of its car sales garage into the three-storey terraced houses.

However, Wiltshire Council denied permission for a number of reasons, including that the development would not be in keeping with the surrounding area; that it would not preserve the setting of
Shurnhold House, a listed building next door that it posed an unacceptable risk of flooding to future occupiers provided inadequate parking lacked outdoor amenity space for residents, and would
overlook neighbouring gardens, decreasing privacy and blocking light.

Consultee Melksham Town Council had also opposed the plans on similar grounds.

Alvin Howard, the agent acting on behalf of Victoria Motors, said: “We’re just about to enter renegotiations. It’s quite literally back to the drawing board.”
