THE CORINIUM Museum in Cirencester is a step nearer winning the prestigious Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award 2011.
The Cotswold District Council-run museum has been “long listed” for the award, along with 19 other museums and galleries.
In early March, the ‘long list’ will be considered by a panel of distinguished museum experts, chaired by Jenny Abramsky, chairman of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
A shortlist which will be announced in the second week of March. Museums shortlisted will be anonymously “road-tested” by families who will then decide the overall winner.
CDC cabinet lead for leisure and arts David Fowles said: “This is really great news for the museum, for Cirencester, and for the residents of the Cotswold district. The staff at the museum have
worked incredibly hard to deliver family-oriented facilities and attractions, and the reaction from the public and the local media has been truly phenomenal.”
