Netherwood Village Apartments in Plainfield, where a four-alarm fire caused non-life threatening injuries to several firefighters and residents.
PLAINFIELD — A Plainfield man who fell unconscious inside a fiery apartment blaze early today was listed in stable condition, an official said.
The victim, whom officials did not identify, was treated for second-degree burns to his arms at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, according to Plainfield Acting Fire Chief Frank Tidwell.
Firefighters battled the blaze, which started around 1:30 a.m. on East Front Street, for about three hours.
They entered through a second-story window at the Netherwood Village Apartments after reports that a man’s hand was visible in the window, Tidwell said.

The fire started in a first-floor unit and flames spread quickly due to strong wind gusts, Tidwell said.
“The wind pushing the way it was, it just took off,” he said.
Ten others were also injured, according to Tidwell. A woman inside the apartment was treated for smoke inhalation. A firefighter suffered a hand laceration, and others reported minor back injuries and sprained ankles.
About 60 firefighters from several towns responded, according to Tidwell.
The fire does not look suspicious but is being investigated, he said.
