The upcoming Honeycomb-powered Motorola Xoom tablet, which is expected to land with a $800 off-contract price tag, has just been listed on Best Buy for pre-order with a hefty $1200 price tag – adding an extra $400 to the price. If you’re interested in securing the device, you can head to your local Best Buy retail outlet starting Thursday. Unfortunately the retailer has stated that the tablet will be available in stores only so you will not be able to take the easy route and pre-order online.
Before you decide to abandon the device and start looking for other options, please be aware that there’s a good chance the price will change – and we’re desperately hoping it will – to its previously speculated price, $800. That being said, it is also possible for the price to stay at $1200.
While Motorola’s Xoom tablet is very impressive with its Android 3.0 Honeycomb integration, 10-inch display, NVIDIA Tegra dual-core processor and various other features, the $1200 – if indeed true – is in no way justified. The cost of the tablet will be clear as days pass by and while we hope it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, we can’t really count on it.
Lastly, we’d love to see what our readers think of it; would you be willing to spend $1200 for the Xoom?
