JAN. 26

  • Counterfeit money: A bank told police a 27-year-old man attempted to deposit $450 in counterfeit cash into an account. Police could not locate the suspect and referred the case to the U.S. Secret Service.

  • Fraud: A woman who saw a home listed for sale on Craigslist said she contacted the seller who said he moved to Africa and wants to rent the home, and told her to send $700 and he would send the keys. Police said the home was lived in, and when they contacted the owner she said she had the home listed for sale through a Realtor.

  • Fraud attempt: A man told police he had received multiple calls from American Lending saying he owed $8,000 after he filled out on on-line loan application but never followed through. He was told to check his credit scores and inform police if there were any fraudulent loans on his record.

  • Damage to property: A convenience store reported that a 60-year-old Brown Deer man pulled away from the gas pump with the nozzle still attached, causing $40 in damage. The man agreed to pay for damages. A witness told police the man was on his cell phone just prior to the incident.

  • Arrest: A 38-year-old Appleton man was jailed on $1,935 in warrants from Winnebago and Manitowoc counties after an officer found him in a disabled vehicle and conducted a routine check.

  • Retail theft: A 32-year-old Menasha man was referred to the district attorney’s office for prosecution after attempting to take $618 worth of groceries from a store without paying. Police said the man had two prior retail theft convictions.

  • Disturbance. Police were summoned to the 700 block of Ninth Street because of a quarrel between a mother and her 26-year-old daughter over “expectations of housekeeping.” The quarrel was emotional and necessitated a cooling-off period.

  • Domestic: Police responded to a report by woman in the 700 block of Ida Street who indicated her husband was threatening to kick her in the head. He had previously kicked In a door.

  • Alcohol: Police responding to a call about a loud party at a residence in the 1300 block of Lucerne Drive could hear noise from the roadway. Numerous underage individuals were found to be consuming alcohol.

  • Disturbance: A man called 911 to report that he had been beaten up in a bar. Police later determined the caller was responsible for causing the disturbance. He was arrested for disorderly conduct.

  • Disturbance: Officers were sent to the 500 block of Fourth Street on a report of a disturbance in which a man was hit in the head with a pool stick. Everyone had left the scene when officers arrived. Police provided no information on who was involved.

  • Alcohol: A female was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of the Menasha Public Library. She was incapacitated by alcohol and was referred for treatment.

  • Miscellaneous: A man visited the police department lobby and reported that someone wanted to kill him.

  • Bail jumping: Five Oaks Drive and Oneida Street. A man, who was covered in snow, was stumbling while walking on the side of the road. Police learned he had been drinking, was out on bond on an unrelated charge and was under an absolute sobriety condition. He was processed on a charge of misdemeanor bail jumping.

  • Theft: A resident of the 1300 block of Traders Road reported that some medication was taken from a bedroom dresser drawer.

  • Chase: Police observed a man traveling east in a vehicle on Plank Road at about 60 mph. After a traffic stop was attempted, the driver began to flee. He was stopped and arrested for fleeing an officer and a third offense of drunken driving.

  • Theft: A Menasha woman reported that someone stole her Michigan child support check while she was in jail and then cashed it.

  • Harassment: A woman in the 200 block of Chute Street reported that she was receiving numerous calls from an unidentified man who did not speak but only breathed into the phone.

  • Miscellaneous: A city snowplow driver complained about bicycles being locked to the light posts on Mill Street. The bicycles are damaging the posts and plows when they drive past.

  • Drugs: While investigating a traffic stop at Ahnaip Street and Nicolet Boulevard, police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle.

  • Theft: A woman in the 600 block of Second Street reported that her ex-boyfriend took her Wii game system from her apartment, along with two remotes and two games. Also taken were cash, clothes and a quesadilla maker.
