A Japanese DRAM manufacturer is set to become the first Japanese company to be listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).
The company – Elpida Memory Inc. — is Japan’s largest manufacturer of DRAM – or dynamic random access memory — chips. Elpida is set to begin issuing Taiwan Depositary Receipts (TDRs) on February 25.
Elpida is expected to bring in some $12.3 billion yen (NT $4.3 billion) in funds. It says it will use those funds to conduct research and development as well as to merge and buy out firms. Elpida also says it wants to increase its popularity in Taiwan as well.
Elpida is currently the world’s number three DRAM manufacturer. It’s hoping to work with Taiwanese companies to compete with the world’s number one DRAM maker – Samsung.
