WELLESLEY, Mass. — A Wellesley home is fit for a queen. Her majesty, Queen Elizabeth the second, is listed as the owner of a $1.5 million house.
Right now, the home on Bradley Avenue is still empty, but it’s getting some residents very soon.
Queen Elizabeth II is listed as the new owner of the new colonial home in Wellesley.
“I saw that in the local paper. I didn’t know what that meant. I thought it was a joke,” said Arthur Mills, Wellesley resident.
But Queen Elizabeth II isn’t really moving in.
The house was purchased in January for the Canadian Consul in Massachusetts and it was actually paid for by the Canadian government.
Queen Elizabeth is still head of state for Canada, which is why the transaction is in her name.
Residents who met their new neighbor say he’s friendly.
“He seems very nice, he was asking about the neighborhood, if there was nice people. I said, ‘Of course very nice. The best town ever.’” said Jakie Frei, Wellesley resident.
But that they wouldn’t mind the royal family moving in.
“I went this morning to play tennis with my friends, they asked, ‘How do you feel Jakie to have Queen Elizabeth as your neighbor?’ It would be great,” said Frei.
Others just want a nice neighbor no matter who they are.
“If the people are good neighbors, that’s all. I’m not interested what their stripes are,” said Mills.
This new house is replacing the consul-general’s current residence in Weston.
That house was purchased in 1997 for $1.3 million.
