PLANNING approval was given at Craigavon Borough Council on Monday night for 190 new homes in the Portadown-Birches area.

The biggest of the three developments is at Clonmakate Road, Birches, where 121 units are planned – 66 apartments, 39 town houses and 16 semi-detached homes.

The applicants are listed as J. Geddis and J. Lilley and the agents are Site Express of Holywood, County Down.

At Armagh Road, Portadown – adjacent to Old Rectory Park – 52 units are planned, in the form of 44 semi-detached houses and eight town houses.

The developers are Windsor Securities and the agent is David McMaster Architect of Mahon Industrial Estate.

Meanwhile, the smallest of the three is at Edenderry and is part of the long-awaited redevelopment of the area – the re-building of Florence Court, between Joseph Street and Watson Street.

The once-famous part of Edenderry was demolished many years ago, and the new plan is to create 15 houses – nine town houses and six semi-detached.

The developer is Mr William Waugh of Middlesex and the agent Bell Design Services of Armagh.
