Oakville house fire sends seven to hospital, two in critical condition

OAKVILLE, Ont. – Two people are listed in critical condition following an early morning house fire in Oakville.

Oakville fire told 680News that the blaze broke out just after 6:30 a.m. Sunday at 1479 Devon Road, near Maple Grove and Cornwall Road.

A total of seven people were transported to Oakville Trafalgar Hospital, five of which were treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries. Oakville fire confirms that only one of the seven lived at the house.

At the height of the fire, seven fire trucks were on scene and neighbouring houses had to be evacuated. It took four hours to get the blaze under control.

The Ontario Fire Marshal remains on the scene and they continue to investigate alongside Oakville Fire. However, the cause of the blaze is unknown as this time.

Investigators estimate damage to the house at $750,000, while damage to a neighbouring residence totals $25,000.
