Marathon month kicks off on Dedham TV – Dedham TV teams with Deli after Dark for Dedham High School football “Super Saturday” marathon on Feb. 5, celebrate football Super Saturday with Dedham TV and 10 cent wings at Deli after Dark! The DTV DHS football marathon will air from 10 a.m. To 7 p.m. on DTV channels Comcast 08, Verizon 40 and RCN 15. Watch Dedham High blockbuster games at Deli After Dark and enjoy 10 cent wings starting at 4 p.m. Deli After Dark is located at 545 High St. We can’t cheer for the Pats, cheer for Dedham High! Networking event – The Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) will hold its monthly Noon Networking program on Tuesday, February 8 from 12:00 -1:30 PM at Buca di Beppo Restaurant, 233 Elm St. The Networking Series is sponsored by The Cooperative Bank. Talk at library – MassSupport Network, a service of Riverside Community Care, has been tapped to provide outreach to those affected by the floods of March, 2010 as part of a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH) funded crisis counseling grant. Due to weather, MassSupport Network is changing the date of their presentation at the Dedham Public Library at 43 Church St., to Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. The presentation will focus on stress management and disaster preparedness. If you were affected by the floods please come to receive information on community resources, support and guidance. Riverdale School Fundraiser – The Riverdale School PTO will hold a fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. at the Irish Alehouse. Tickets are $20 a person (adults only). The 1980s themed fundraiser will include music, trivia, a silent auction, food, raffles and a cash bar. There will be a best male and female ’80s costume winner. All proceeds will go directly to the Riverdale school. Limited number of tickets will be sold at the door. Kid Movie – National Amusements will show “Barbie: A Fairy Secret,” to its Showcase Cinema de Lux location at Legacy Place in February for its monthly Kidtoons weekend event. “Barbie: A Fairy Secret,” is the story of an amazing adventure with Barbie where she learns the power of friendship as she travels through a magical fairyland. In the action-packed journey, Barbie and Raquelle travel through the magical secret fairy world on their hunt to find Ken, who has been whisked away by a group of fairies. Kidtoons is a monthly program hosted by Showcase Cinema de Lux at Legacy Place that is dedicated to helping parents connect with their kids by bringing family friendly animated movies to the big screen. Admission is only $3.50 and a free concession is received with each ticket purchase. The movie will be shown on Feb. 12 and 13 at noon.
Cocktails with Cupid (375 kick-off event) – Enjoy an evening of live music, dancing, hors d’oeuves and fun at Cocktails with Cupid. The event will be a kick-off to the town’s 375 Celebration and will be held at the Endicott Estate on East Street from 7 p.m. to midnight. Cash bar will be available. Science with a Mission – What would motivate a talented scientist to leave her lucrative job to help the poor in developing countries? Join us for an evening with Dr. Alynne MacLean, founder of Science With A Mission, on Monday, Feb.14, at 7 p.m. and be inspired by what you discover. MacLean combined her passion for chemistry with her desire to help people in the developing world when she left her career in biotech to start Science with a Mission, a nonprofit organization that creates low-cost diagnostic tests for diseases (e.g., HIV, malaria, typhoid, hepatitis) that are being used in over 50 countries in the developing world. This free event is part of the “Modern Day Prophet” series presented by the Peace and Justice Adult Faith Formation Committees of St. Susanna. Maple Sugaring Day – It’s sugarin’ time in the Blue Hills! Join us as we make maple syrup in the traditional way at beautiful Brookwood Farm in Milton. Put on your boots and flannel shirt and join in the outdoor fun! Learn how to identify a sugar maple and see the sap drip into buckets from the trees. Travel along the trail of time and meet costumed characters demonstrating the changes in maple sugaring methods from Native Americans to Yankee farmers to modern day technology. Smell the wood smoke as you watch clouds of steam rise from the bubbling sap. Savor the taste of real maple syrup. Enjoy a free shuttle ride on the Maple Express Trolley. Activities for all ages. Second day will be Sunday, March 13. Program Admission: $6, kids age 2 and under are free. Directions: Brookwood Farm is located in the Blue Hills Reservation on the Canton/Milton line.
