Man listed as critical after he’s pinned under bus

MONTREAL – A man was in critical condition in hospital Thursday morning after being pinned under a bus for more than two hours near Trois Rivières.

The man, a worker at a chicken processing facility in Victoriaville, was on his way to work with 12 other people when the minibus they were travelling in flipped over along Highway 40. The man was trapped under the vehicle, said Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Claude Dénis, and suffered extensive injuries. Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 3 a.m., said Dénis, but because of the blowing snow and other complications, were unable to get the trapped man out from beneath the bus until almost 5:30 a.m.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in extremely critical condition. None of the other passengers or the driver of the bus were injured, Dénis said, but the driver was treated at the scene for shock.

The workers had been on their way to Victoriaville from L’Épiphanie when the accident occurred, and police are trying to determine exactly what caused the crash. There were no other vehicles involved.
