KP gets black-listed TRO: Dayasiri

By Yohan Perera

The main opposition UNP yesterday alleged that the black-listed pro LTTE NGO Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) had been handed over to Ex-Tiger strongman Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP.

UNP Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera told a news conference yesterday that 100 acres of land in the North had also been handed over to the TRO. He questioned as to how the government could treat a person who betrayed the nation in this manner. He made this point by recalling that KP was a person who played a lead role in collecting funds for the LTTE.

Mr. Jayasekera who criticized the statement made by KP in Jaffna that repeated crimes in Jaffna was directed at collecting jewellery, said the impression one would get from it was that women in the North did not have the right to wear jewellery,  He said the request which had been made by KP from the women to keep their jewellery in banks would also create an opportunity for the armed gangs who hunt for those items. He therefore said the names of the owners of these kinds of items would be exposed to the gangs if the jewellery were deposited in banks.  “These things would happen as the gangs have political connections,” he said.
