The racing industry will receive half the net profits the government makes from the sale of the Tote betting shops and pools business, John Penrose, gambling minister, has told MPs.

The coalition government’s decision fulfils a commitment first made by the Labour administration and means the industry is set to receive a one-off payment of about £100m.
