A landmark country house in west Cumbria will be sold for a knock-down price at auction after failing to sell.
Mockerkin Hall, at Mockerkin, near Cockermouth, will go under the hammer at an Auction House Cumbria sale at Carlisle Racecourse on February 24.
The Grade II-listed property will carry a combined guide price of £300,000 – £200,000 for the hall, an adjoining barn and coach house and £100,000 for the former stables and a lodge.
The seven-bedroomed property had previously been up for sale with Mitchells Estate Agents for £575,000, but failed to sell.
The property is in need of renovation but retains many original features.
It was the subject of controversy 10 years ago when Allerdale council was preparing to carry out a compulsory purchase order after a former owner stalled over renovations.
It was last in active use as a restaurant for private functions and had been the subject of complaints from villagers who watched it deteriorate.
