CHELMSFORD Council has cleaned up a listed building in Chelmsford.
The exterior of the Grade II listed Anne Knight building, in Duke Street, opposite the railway station, is being tidied up while its future is decided.
The council’s grounds maintenance team has been working over the past two weeks to give the building a facelift.
It was the birthplace of Anne Knight, a Quaker, feminist and social reformer.
Council leader Roy Whitehead has said that a similar tidy-up operation will be carried out at the listed Marconi building, in New Street.
The historic building has been the subject of criticism because of its present state.
Mr Whitehead told a cabinet meeting once agreement had been reached with the receivers of the site, work would begin.
