THE Bonnie Doon holiday shack made famous in The Castle has hit the market – complete with a set of jousting sticks.

For $195,000, buyers can enjoy the serenity so cherished by Darryl Kerrigan and other characters in the hit 1997 movie that launched Eric Bana’s film career.

With high-voltage powerlines visible over the back fence and the faint whiff of two-stroke from boats buzzing around nearby Lake Eildon, agent Dean Shipley from RT Edgar said the property offered the authentic Kerrigan experience.

“It might have had a lick of paint but other than that, it’s the same house,” Mr Shipley said.

He said his office had been bombarded with calls from people wanting to unleash some of the movie’s famous one-liners since the property was listed two weeks ago.

“They ring up and ask how much it is and then tell you ‘you’re dreaming’,” Mr Shipley said.

“It’s pretty funny early in the day but by the afternoon you’ve had 20 calls and you know what’s coming, so it wears a bit thin.”

As well as the two-bedroom fibro shack, the buyer of 3491 Maintongoon Rd will be the proud owner of other pieces of memorabilia from the film, including Australia’s most famous mozzie zapper and Tracey Kerrigan’s diploma of hairdressing from Sunshine TAFE. “There is also a set of jousting sticks, which is a must-have for all family holidays,” Mr Shipley said.

Sydneysider Richard Moseley is selling the property after paying $170,000 for it in 2006.

“It has been fun owning something that is so well known by so many Australians, but I just don’t get to use it anywhere near enough,” Mr Moseley said.

“It’s a great place to spend time and just soak up the serenity.”
