Myddleton Lodge, which is Grade I listed, dates back to 1260 and was home to the Middletons – one of the town’s most famous families.

The 13th century lodge complete with six bedrooms, four bathrooms, a library and two kitchens, failed to sell when it was put on the market a year ago.

But now the property, which is set in almost six acres of land, could be yours for £2.45 million.

Patrick McCutcheon from estate agents Dacre, Son Hartley said that the building, which is situated just north of the River Wharfe, has already attracted plenty of interest.

He said: “We had our first viewing on Tuesday and we have someone coming up from London to have a look at the property.

“We have sent out around 37 brochures to our registered applicants so we are expecting something to bounce from that.

“The building’s history is intertwined with that of the town.

“I think it is a very characterful but modern equipped house.”

The lodge was originally put on the market in November 2009 for £3.25m but since then the price has been slashed.

Mr McCutcheon added: “It has got some absolutely stunning views and is a very prestigious property.”

The ancestral home of the Middleton family, the lodge had been used as a spiritual retreat after being bought by the Passionist Fathers in
1922, and later the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds in 1985.

But it was neglected during the 1990s.
In 2001, however, the church sold the lodge to Mark and Janet Sayer who
returned the lodge to the role of a family home.

They restored the building and won a conservation award from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

It was then put on the market in 2007 for £2.85m.
