The future for one of Norfolk’s historic buildings looked brighter after a visit by the Prince of Wales yesterday.
The Prince, who is president of the Prince’s Regeneration Trust, arrived at Hanse House, in St Margaret’s Place, in King’s Lynn’s medieval quarter, at around 5.20pm.
A small crowd of around 25 people cheered as the Prince stepped out of his car, was greeted by West Norfolk mayor Zipha Christopher and walked into the Grade I listed building.
The heir to the British throne, who donned a grey suit with blue shirt and tie, then embarked on a tour of the building which includes a former Hanseatic warehouse dating from 1475.
Prince Charles then chaired a meeting which included the borough mayor, West Norfolk Council leader Nick Daubney and Norfolk County Council leader Derrick Murphy before leaving at 6.10pm.
The purpose of the meeting was to determine how the building could be used in the future now the county council is looking to relocate the register office, which the building houses, and sell it off.
Speaking after the meeting, Mayor Christopher said: “I am so delighted that he decided to come to see this magnificent building and I think the meeting went very well and we now have ideas of a way forward.”
