Housing slump: Nick Clegg has been unable to sell his home which has been on the market since September
Nick Clegg has fallen foul of the stagnant property market and is still unable to sell his home despite putting it up for sale in September.
The three-bedroom semi-detached house is in one of the most desirable areas of the deputy prime minister’s constituency in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, where homes are usually snapped up quickly according to local estate agents.
It is close to two of the city’s most highly-regarded secondary schools and within easy reach of the Peak District, but a spokesman said it had failed to attract the attention of a single buyer.
Curiously, neither the selling agent nor the asking price of the house has been advertised and no ‘for sale’ board has been put up.
The house is not even listed on the most popular house buying sites, which is where many potential purchasers look to find a new family home.
The deputy prime minister’s housing woes are the culmination of a difficult nine months in which his popularity in the polls has slumped.
Mr Clegg’s spokesman said the house was being marketed in a ‘more subtle’ way and added: ‘It is still on the market. There has been a bit of interest but nobody has made a formal offer on it yet.
‘When the house is sold Mr Clegg will be renting a home in the constituency to bring him into line with the new rules on MPs’ expenses.’

Mr Clegg faced controversy before the General Election when it was revealed he claimed £84,000 in four years on the home which he described as a modest property in a poor state of repair when he bought it.
The new expenses rules mean that MPs are not allowed to make profit on a second home.
The Liberal Democrat leader has pledged to return any profit he makes on the sale.
Mr Clegg’s failure to sell the house comes as support for the Liberal Democrats has slumped after a promising pre-election surge.

Before the election Mr Clegg promised voters he would not increase VAT but since taking office the tax has increased from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent.
The party has also angered students – once a traditional source of strong support – after the Government’s Business Secretary Vince Cable pushed a bill to remove the cap on tuition fees.
The furore sparked violent protests in cities around the country as tens of thousands of students marched against the increases.
Many of Mr Clegg’s own party have complained that traditional Liberal Democrat principles have been compromised by forming a coalition government with the Conservatives.

“Nick Clegg’s woes add up as house fails to sell…despite being on the market since September…”. The only reason that a house will fail to sell is due to the wrong price being put on it by the seller. As per usual someone who has overpaid on a property is keen to pass this on to the next buyer – who of course is not interested.

Who on earth would want to live in this house which is owned by an anti British left wing loser. You would only agree on a price for him to change his mind and ask for more.
