SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Beautiful Hand-Made Knits on Sale
Hand-made hats, scarves, mittens, sweaters, afghans, baby blankets, pet sweaters and more will be on sale in the Hospital Lobby on
February 7th and 23rd from 10:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M. All items are created by the Knitwits, the Hospital’s talented volunteer knitting group, and proceeds from the sales benefit the Hospital.  For more information, call (914)-681-1225.

Healthy Living for Life 
A free monthly group for anyone who is having difficulty trying to maintain a healthy weight.  All ages are welcome for open and frank discussions about weight loss, diets, meal preparation, exercise, and more.  Exchange ideas and resources with others who understand how you feel.  A White Plains Hospital registered nurse will facilitate these meetings.  The group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, February15th 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the White Plains Hospital Auditorium unless otherwise noted. Epilepsy Support Group
This program, sponsored by the Epilepsy Life Links and Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group, provides information and support to individuals who are newly diagnosed, feeling isolated or caring for someone with epilepsy. Heart Club-
The Heart Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month (no meeting in February), next meeting will be on March 1st at 7:00 pm in Jazzman’s Café at White Plains Hospital. The Heart Club provides educational lectures for heart patients, families and friends. Sessions are presented by physicians and other health care personnel. Huntington’s Disease Caregivers Support Group
Exchange ideas and resources with others who understand how you feel. Meetings are on the last Wednesday of every month, starts on Wednesday, February 23rd at 6 pm in the White Plains Hospital Medical Library. Ostomy Support Group
A support group for ostomy patients and those with related intestinal disorders. All ages are welcome for open and frank discussions of life as an “ostomate” in a casual setting. Parenting Group

Support Groups for Children of Divorced Parents
Open to children that are in the 2nd to 5th grade with parents who are divorced or in the process of getting a divorce. The support group meets every other week on Tuesdays at 5:15pm, February 8th and 22nd. This program helps children understand, deal with, and help express their feelings about the divorce. Perinatal Bereavement Support Group
Free support group for those who have lost a pregnancy at any stage or have had an infant die. Stroke Support Group

Diabetes and Nutrition Services

Living With Diabetes
White Plains Hospital offers a 12-hour course providing instruction on blood sugar control, nutrition, exercise, and psychosocial issues for people with diabetes. Please call (914)-681-1228 for more information.

THE ANXIETY AND PHOBIA TREATMENT CENTER
WPHC’s Anxiety and Phobia Treatment center is the first hospital-based center of its kind in the country—providing groundbreaking therapies and programs since 1971. For details on the programs listed below, call (914)-681-1038.             

Phobia Workshops
Through White Plains Hospital’s Phobia Workshop, participants attend nine weekly group meetings with a professional, and seven one-hour practice sessions with a phobia counselor to help them overcome fears and phobias using a cognitive behavioral and supportive exposure approach. Health Anxiety Program
This group, led by a White Plains Hospital psychiatrist, is designed for people who have hypochondria-an exaggerated fear of physical illness. Call (914)-681-1038 for more information.

Public Speaking/Social Anxiety Program
Weekly meetings focused on social anxiety and public speaking. This program allows you to work at your own pace, attempting manageable yet challenging exercises without pressure to perform. Through hard work and our systematic approach, confidence and ability will dramatically increase. Group meets Thursdays at 5:30 pm. PARENT AND CHILD EDUCATION PROGRAMS
White Plains Hospital, in partnership with Destination Maternity, provides an array of educational opportunities for expectant and new parents. Classes include prenatal yoga, Mommy Me yoga, Daddy Basic Training, and more. Most classes are held at Destination Maternity in White Plains. Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes
A class addressing everything the expectant mother needs to know for successful breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding Support Group
This ongoing group for prenatal and postnatal women is led by nurses and/or certified lactation educators.

Childbirth Classes
Lamaze and Lamaze refresher programs are taught by independent certified instructors.

Expectant Parent Tours
Tours of the Silberstein Neonatal and Maternity Centered are scheduled multiple times per month.

Child Passenger Safety Program
A program offered by White Plains Hospital Center and the Greenburgh Police Department with the intention to educate parents and caregivers on car seat safety, injury prevention, and health promotion, and to ensure that babies and children are correctly and safely secured while traveling in a motor vehicle. Last year the child seat safety program inspected over 1400 car seats and only 10 were installed correctly!

Child Passenger Safety Seminar Inspection
Parents and caregivers can sign up for this free program- held on the first Tuesday of every month, February 1st at 7:00 pm to learn more about child passenger safety and proper installation. Call (914)-681-2444 to register.

Child Safety Seat Check
Experts are available to check your car seat for free on the first and third Saturdays. February 5th  and February 19th  from 11:00 A.M to 2:00 P.M. at the Greenburgh Police Department Child Seat Inspection Station at 177 Hillside Avenue. No appointments are necessary.

Mall Walkers
Walk for fitness and fun!  This group meets three times a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9:00 – 10:00 am, at the Galleria Mall, Fashion Level 2.  Participants walk at their own pace in an environment supervised by WPHC health care professionals.  This program is free. Alzheimer’s Program

Voice Care Emergency Response

Cancer Genetics Program
White Plains Hospital offers genetic counseling to individuals with a personal or family history of cancer. The aim is to provide clear, relevant information regarding cancer risks and to identify individuals at risk for hereditary cancers. Counselors are available Monday-Thursday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. A Reading Writing Workshop
These workshops bring healing through writing and sharing our stories in a safe and supportive environment. Meeting will be held on the second Wednesday of the month February 9th, 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the Weil Conference Room on the 3rd floor of the Dickstein Cancer Center. No previous writing experience is required. A light supper is served and all materials are supplied. The workshops are free of charge, but registration is required to attend. Look Good…Feel Better

Blood Donor Center
The Blood Donor Center is open every weekday 8:45 am – 3:45 pm.  Saturday hours are available.  Donors must be 17 – 75 years of age, in good health and weigh at least 110 lbs.  Appointments are recommended. Call (914)-681-1056.

Blood Pressure Screening
