PUTRAJAYA, Jan 23 (Bernama) — While investigations by the National Registration Department (NRD) do not indicate staff involvement in a baby-for-sale racket uncovered by the police, the department is not letting up in its probe.

As such, NRD director-general Datuk Alwi Ibrahim wants any information on the matter to be reported to him or the relevant authorities.

He said severe action would be taken against any NRD employee found to be involved in such rackets.

“The action would depend on the offence as listed under the Public Officers Regulations 1993 (Conduct and Discipline), which carries various penalties, including fine and dismissal.

“Should it (offence) involve payment (money), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission would be informed of the matter,” he added.

Alwi was speaking to reporters at a ceremony here today, where Deputy Home Minister Datuk Lee Chee Leong presented citizenship certificates to 101 recipients.

Last Tuesday, the police uncovered another baby-for-sale racket in the Klang Valley, believed to have been linked to an international syndicate.
