CORPUS CHRISTI – Two young men were arrested Thursday night for robbing people who had posted electronics for sale on Craigslist.com. The case started in the afternoon when a man called police from the Motel 6 on Paul Jones resident at the Wharf Apartments reported he had been contacted about a Playstation 3 console and two games he had listed for sale on the website.

The 31-year-old victim met the prospective buyer at the Wharf Apartments in Flour Bluff as instructed. When he went to hand over the Playstation 3, the other man pulled out a gun. Once he had all the items, the suspect ran through the apartment complex towards an adjoining fence with the Bay Club Apartments. A young black man was seen on the other side of the fence taking possession of the stolen items.

About four hours later a 17-year-old man fell victim to the same type of crime. He came out the Wharf Apartments to sell his laptop computer, also listed on Craigslist.com, to a man who called him on the phone. The victim met a young Hispanic man and a young black man at the complex. Again, the Hispanic man pulled out a gun once he had the laptop computer. However, this time the victim was able to identify the suspects. As it turns out, he went to Flour Bluff High School with the suspects.

18-year-old Jay Pena and 17-year-old Everett White were located and arrested at 1409 Dewitt Avenue. White’s mother allowed officers to search her home where they recovered a baggie of cocaine and a rifle. The victims in both crimes were able to positively identify the suspects. Police charged White and Pena with aggravated robbery and possession of a controlled substance.

Nueces County court records show White was just arrested and charged with drug possession on December 28, 2010. Pena was sentenced on December 10, 2010 for misdemeanor theft (property worth less than $500). He was sentenced to 80 days in jail, but there is no record on when he was supposed to serve the sentence, or why he was not already in jail.
