The first event of the Borgata Winter Open is in the books, finishing up at about 7am today, and the winner is newcomer Alex Rocha, who takes home a $150,850 cash.

Rocha, of Setauket N.Y.  on Long Island appears to be exploding onto the Atlantic City scene as he has one other listed cash, a $33,000 first place at the Harrah’s resort WSOP circuit events last month. The 21 year old won a ring in a $350 No Limit event.

So that’s kind of a hot streak.

Second went to Joshua Lawson of Quarryville, PA., who wins $94,236.

The event attracted 1,472 players and had a prize pool of $736,000.

Meanwhile Event 2 of the open, a $300 buy-in with 520 players, is down to 21 players. Most notable is pro Steve Dannenmann, who sits in fourth place on the chip count with 379K.

Dannenmann, a frequent player at Borgata events, has more than $4.5 million in tournament winnings.

The chip leader is Jessy Pulido of Pembrooke Pine Fla. With 638K.

Play resumes today at 1pm.

Also Event 3 of the open, a $200 buy-in Limit Hold’em went to Glen Englebert of Erial NJ who wins $6925.
