Tulsa MLK events listed

Tulsans will mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday with a free breakfast, parade and rally, among other events.
The day’s events begin with a free breakfast at the Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League, 240 E. Apache St., from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

The 32nd annual MLK parade will begin at 11 a.m. The parade will start at Elgin Avenue and John Hope Franklin Boulevard, proceed east to Greenwood Avenue, travel south through the Greenwood Business District to Archer, then west to Elgin.

A rally is slated to follow the parade in the OSU-Tulsa Main
Hall-Commons Area, 700 N. Greenwood Ave., with a presentation of awards.

Later Monday, the Association of Black Collegians of the University of Tulsa, the Student Association and Sharp Chapel will be sponsoring a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at 4 p.m.

The featured speaker will be Tulsa attorney and author Hannibal Johnson, whose books include “Black Wall Street,” “Up from the Ashes” and “Acres of Aspiration.”

The event also will include a rendition of the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and the reciting of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

The celebration will be held at TU’s Sharp Chapel, 800 S. Tucker Ave. It is free and open to the public.
