LONGS, SC (WMBF) – Officers with the Horry County Police Department are investigating the shooting of a 21-year-old Longs man Sunday afternoon.

Lt. Raul Denis, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, said officers responded to a reported shooting along Sweet Bay Road in Longs around 2 p.m.

Officers found a vehicle in a ditch as well as what appeared to be a bullet hole in the vehicles front passenger door. Upon further investigation, a victim was found at Seacoast Medical Center in Little River, receiving treatment for gunshot wounds to his stomach and forearm.

The victim, Nigel Vereen, 21, was then transported to MUSC for treatment and was last listed in critical condition.
