Best Buy lists iPad 2 Online, Will They Put the Original iPad on Sale?

Best Buy iPad 2

Big box retailer Best Buy listed Apple’s next generation tablet device, the iPad 2, on its web site recently and quickly pulled it down. The electronics store had three versions of the iPad 2 listed: a Wi-Fi version, a 3G and Wi-Fi version along with an iPad 2 with a larger hard drive.

While the devices were listed only as “iPad,” the “coming soon” moniker on the pages left many to speculate that these were indeed meant for the iPad 2. Best Buy was possibly testing the listings for the sought-after tablet computers in preparation of Apple’s release of the iPad 2 sometime in Q1.

“I saw the pictures and it was hard to tell if they were really for the iPad 2,” says 22-year-old iPad fan Jose Rodriguez. “They looked like it was the iPad but the prices and that it said ‘coming soon’ probably meant that Best Buy was prepping for the iPad 2 when it comes out. They also had just an Apple logo instead of a picture of the iPad 2 because it isn’t out yet.

“I’m not sure if Best Buy will be doing any sales on the release day for the iPad 2, but I’ll probably just buy it online from the Apple Store.”

Best Buy was mum on the iPad 2 listing and many consumers wonder if Best Buy will be having any sales after the release.

“The corporate office doesn’t tell us much,” says a Best Buy associate who wanted to remain anonymous. “I think listing the iPad 2 on the web site was a mistake and they were just testing things out I guess.”

When asked if Best Buy will be hosting any iPad 2 sales, he laughed. “I have no idea,” said the rep. “It’s more likely that we would be discounting the original iPad soon to make room for the new one.”
