Thursday: Kathy Musial, curator of living collections at the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, will discuss the flora of Valle Central near Santiago, including the spectacle known as the Desierto Florido (Flowering Desert). Friday: Dealers from around the world congregate for Photo L.A., which calls itself the largest photo-based art fair in the country. Programming include lectures and seminars on collecting. Fair runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Jan. 16, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 17; daily admission is $20, weekend pass is $30, some seminars and lectures are extra.
