Schools closed Tues.; other cancellations listed

This winter weather is expected to continue on Tuesday, Jan. 11, so many churches, schools, organizations and governmental bodies are already thinking ahead – and canceling activities. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and other schools will be closed. Some public meetings are being shifted around as well. See our listings below. TUESDAY, JAN. 11

• Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools will be closed Tuesday. Make-up days for Monday and Tuesday will be Monday, Jan. 17, and Friday, Feb. 18. All after-school activities (tutorials, PTA meetings, athletic events and contests) are canceled. After-school programs are also called off for the day. More info on the CMS website.
• Community School of Davidson is closed Tuesday. Make-up days for Monday and Tuesday are next Monday, Jan. 17, and Monday, Feb. 7.
• Woodlawn, Davidson Day, and Cannon schools are  closed, as is McKinney Academy.
• Schools are closed in Mooresville, Iredell-Statesville, Cabarrus and other area school districts.
• The Lake Norman YMCA and other Y branches in greater Charlotte have extended their planned Tuesday open house into a multi-day event through Friday, Jan. 14. Lowe’s YMCA in Mooresville will open at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Lake Norman Y opens at 10 a.m. Details in this announcement: “YMCA extends open house to Fri.; no power? Get a shower”
• The Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education has rescheduled its Tuesday meeting to 2 p.m. (from 6 p.m.) so folks won’t have to ride home on icy roads in the dark. Read more on the CMS website.
• UNC Charlotte day and evening classes are called off.
• Our Town Cinemas in Davidson will decide by late Tuesday morning on the day’s show times, a spokeswoman said.
• The Davidson United Methodist Church office will be closed Tuesday.
• Lake Norman Community Development Council meeting originally scheduled Tuesday morning at at 8:15 at Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson is canceled.
• North Mecklenburg Republican Women‘s dinner meeting Tuesday featuring former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory has been canceled. It will be rescheduled later, the group says.
• Tuesday’s Organ at Davidson concert at Davidson College Presbyterian Church has been postponed for a week. Details in The Guide.
