Terry believe Prince Marino will be in contention at Wolverhampton

Terry believe Prince Marino will be in contention at Wolverhampton

“Marino Prince has won four of his last five over hurdles… “

Terry Norman livens up Monday afternoon with a pair of bets that could get your week off to a winning start…

Trying to decipher whether a horse is well handicapped is one of the joys of this sport and sparks debate like nothing else in the world of gambling. In most cases it’s guesswork.

That said, nobody will convince me that Alan King will not be delighted that his unexposed mare, American Ladie, (15:15, Taunton) has received a rating of 113 for her handicap debut after two promising runs in novice events. The daughter of Monasheen Mountain followed up an excellent second to Sparky May (since won a listed event at Newbury and is now rated 138) at Lingfield with another second place to surprise winner, Extremely So, at Folkestone.

In both races American Ladie has jumped and travelled well, her Folkestone conqueror hardly let the form down when third under a penalty to Nicky Henderson’s promising novice Gibb River .

An added bonus in this race is that the main opponents to the selection have all been rising consistently in their marks. Marleno has been raised 8lb for winning at Taunton and Switched Off, 8lb higher for getting beat, when he should have won, at Musselburgh.
Front-running Bann Usice is still 7lb higher than her last win and Hail Caesar has been upped 2lbs despite being beaten 40 lengths on his last start!

Getting suckered in to supporting horses that improve over hurdles after a fruitless spell on the flat but return to the level off their old marks is fraught with danger. Many start short and get beat but Marino Prince (16:35, Wolverhampton) doesn’t look one of them. Since Jim Best claimed him for £6,000 after being beaten in a seller for Barry Levy, Marino Prince has won four of his last five over hurdles, admittedly he was lucky on the last of these.

Having won his first start for Best of a mark of 89, the son of Dr Fong now has to compete off a perch of 111. If any of that improvement, and I mean any, rubs off on to his flat mark of 47 he will win here. There is a slight doubt whether the 12 furlongs will suit – the furthest he has won is nine furlongs – but his three flat wins came off marks of 66, 66 and 64.

Recommended bets:
Back American Ladie @ [4.4] ( 15:15 Taunton)
Back Marino Prince @ [2.38] (16:35 Wolverhampton)
