THE announcement of the billion dollar Waila City project drew curious people to the Housing Authority parking lot as they endeavoured to find for themselves what the deal was about.

On display were models of the houses which will be on sale and the layout of Waila City showing all amenities including a rugby field and four schools.

Krishant Naidu, 32, heard about Waila City on the radio and had read reports in the dailies.

“I just wanted to see for myself what this Waila City is about. I have seen the houses which are on display, some of them look very stylish.

“I am just disappointed that no prices have been listed on the houses yet and the people in charge of the project are wanting people to register their interest in the Waila City without providing all the details,” he said.

Nemani Korosiga and Patricia Rara are newlyweds, and expecting a baby soon, for the young couple it was a chance to secure something for their future.

“It all looks very good. The schools and shopping centres and I was told that a major hospital will be built in Waila City because the Health Minister wants a hospital instead of a medical centre,” said Ms Rara.

“I really don’t know, Waila is kind of far from Suva,” said Nemani.

The life-size models of the three bedroom and the two bedroom flats which will be part of the apartment blocks at Waila City also got attention.

According to Housing Authority, there will no longer be studio apartments on offer and the smallest units will be a two-bedroom apartment.
