Jersey City hit-and-run victim listed in ‘very critical condition’ – The Jersey Journal

A 56-year-old Jersey City hit-and-run victim is
unconscious and in critical condition after a sports utility
vehicle slammed into him and knocked him 20 feet early
yesterday morning, police reports said.

A red Ford Explorer was heading east on Montgomery Street
in Jersey City when it hit the victim as he crossed the
street inside the crosswalk at Summit Avenue, eyewitnesses
told police who were called to the scene at 12:46 a.m.,
reports said.

The man, who was crossing near the Evangelismos Greek
Orthodox Church, was thrown 20 feet. He was unconscious last
night at Jersey City Medical Center and in “very
critical condition,” according to Police Lt. Edgar
Martinez, who said he sustained severe head trauma and two
broken legs.

Witnesses told police that the driver of the Explorer
stopped, got out of the SUV, and looked at the victim before
he jumped back into his vehicle and sped off east on
Montgomery Street before making a right onto Florence
Street.

The driver is described as six-feet tall, medium build,
wearing a puffy jacket and metal glasses, police said. His
passenger is described as a woman wearing a red hat and red
jacket, officials said.
