Watch out for police at New Year parties in Ahmedabad

As the air gets ‘intoxicated’ with the countdown to the New Year revelries, the ‘party-poopers’ too have started sniffing the air.

A thorough plan to keep party animals under check has been made by the police. The Ahmedabad rural police have asked owners of party venues — farm houses, resorts, clubs and restaurants — to declare their plans for parties in advance.

The police want to check booze party, late night party, noise at the party, drunken and rash driving, and incidents of eve teasing.

According to superintendent of police (Ahmedabad Rural) Sandip Singh, the police have started surveying party venues in Bopal, Shilaj, Ghuma, Santhal and Aslali. He said so far 33 farm houses had been surveyed and of this, five had declared their plans for the New Year.

“We have laid out several plans to keep the miscreants and other anti-social elements at bay when people will be celebrating the Christmas and New Year. To avoid any nuisance such as incidents of drunken driving during the parties, the police will remain vigilant from December 24 to December 31,” Singh told DNA.

According to police officials, there are 261 bootleggers in Ahmedabad rural police areas where most of the farm houses are located. Further, there are 41 listed gamblers who become active during such revelries. The police have started tracking down these regular offenders.

To keep them informed about party activities, the police have also activated their network of informers. Officials said that the informers would be prowling near farm houses and resorts to give specific information about any illegal activity. Further, patrolling squads will be deployed.

Deputy superintendent of police (DySP) MM Malek said the patrol
party would randomly check suspicious places.
