Billing Services listed in US ‘cramming’ probe

StockMarketWire.com – Billing Services Group has been listed in companies as part of the US Senate commerce committee’s investigation into ‘cramming’.

Cramming is a deceptive practice that involves placing unauthorised ‘mystery charges’ on telephone bills.

Committee chairman Senator John Rockefeller IV sent letters to three telephone companies – ATT, Qwest, and Verizon – and requested information from them to better understand their awareness of the cramming problem and the steps they had taken to address it.

He also asked for a list of the companies that are allowed to place third-party charges on their customers’ telephone bills.

Through certain of its operating subsidiaries, Billing Services Group is one such company.

Billing Services says that based on the information contained in the committee’s announcement, it is the company’s understanding that the investigation primarily involves certain businesses that are selling enhanced services.
