* St. Thomas the Apostle, Little Meadows, Pa.

In January 2008, the Scranton diocese started a study involving parish and regional leaders who made recommendations for downsizing. The decisions were announced in early February 2009. St. Joseph Catholic Church in Choconut Township, south of the New York/Pennsylvania border, closed in July 2010 after St. Thomas the Apostle in Little Meadows, south of Apalachin, locked its doors in June 2010.

* Beautiful Plain Baptist Church, Binghamton

Beautiful Plain Baptist Church merged with Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Endicott in early 2010 to form Cornerstone Community Church, which uses the former Lincoln Avenue building. A for-sale sign is posted on Beautiful Plain’s front lawn. Before the merger, the building on Riverside Drive near Lourdes Hospital had been listed for sale since at least June 2005. At one time, it was listed for $250,000.

* St. Paul’s, Endicott

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church was closed about 10 years ago and sold in late 2003 to Abundant Grace Seventh-Day Adventist for $100,000. The building has been vacant for several years. The property, which includes a residential house, is listed at $129,000.

* First Baptist, Johnson City

First Baptist Church sold its property on Main Street for $1.95 million to United Health Services Hospital Inc. The building was demolished in fall 2010 and paved as a parking lot. The church moved to a new facility on Reynolds Road, north of the Oakdale Mall.

* First Church of Scientist

In early 2006, New Heights Ministries paid $280,000 for the former First Church of Scientist building at Front Street and Riverside Drive in Binghamton.

* Jehovah’s Witness, Taft Avenue

In April 2008, the former Jehovah’s Witness Hall on Taft Avenue in the Town of Union was sold for $250,000 to New York state for a residential facility operated by the Broome Developmental Disabilities Services Office and the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.

* Berean Baptist, Endwell

In January 2006, Churchcare Inc. sold a property at 751 Farm-to-Market Road to the Russian Ukrainian Baptist Church for $380,000.

* Abundant Life, Endicott

In September 2006, Abundant Life sold a church at 1600 Tracey St. to the New York Conference of the United Church of Christ for $79,000. Two years later, the UCC sold the building to New Fellowship Church for $73,500.
