Newcastle look to persuade transfer-listed Steven Taylor to stay at St James’ Park

“I will try to get a resolution. I think, if he could, he would stay if we can
get that right – and I want him to stay.’’

Taylor has played just three times this season after picking up a shoulder
injury in a pre-season friendly and – with the January transfer window
looming – there have been suggestions the 3-1 win over Liverpool last
weekend could have been his last in a Newcastle shirt with Mike Williamson
and Fabricio Coloccini due to return to first-team duties from suspension.

“The club have an asset that isn’t as much of an asset at the end of the
season when his contract is up, so they have transfer-listed him,” Pardew
added.

“I can understand why they have done that. They want something for their
asset. He’s a good player and has been involved in a full England squad.

“You don’t want to lose a player of that calibre. My job is to ensure I do
everything I can to keep him. If I don’t, we have to go and get a
replacement of his calibre.”
