TRIP KEY TO VERSE QUEBEC RAID

Mike Murphy believes the step back up to 10 furlongs will suit Chapter And Verse in the Inside Track Racing Club Quebec Stakes at Lingfield tomorrow.

Although the four-year-old won a maiden over that distance at Pontefract in June 2009, he has mainly campaigned at around a mile.

And he was not beaten far when fourth to Riggins in a Listed race at Kempton on his latest start.

“He’s in very good form and came out of the race at Kempton very well,” said the Bedfordshire trainer.

“He’s squealing and kicking and keen to have another race. We saw this Listed contest and thought we may as well have a pop at it.

“He was only beaten one and a half lengths by Riggins last time and perhaps if we’d gone a bit sooner he might have been closer.

“He’s entitled to be thereabouts on that running and the step up to a mile and a quarter should suit him.

“He won his maiden over that distance but perhaps the quality of the opposition wasn’t great.

“The way he stays on strongly in his race he should not have any problem getting the extra two furlongs.

“When you are in these Listed events you have to go for the best jockey you can, so we’re happy to have got Kieren (Fallon).

“On official ratings he would be giving weight to every horse in the race apart from one.

“With a bit of luck, he shouldn’t be far away.”

James Given has kept Hidden Glory busy of late, but is hoping the three-year-old gelding can put up a respectable show.

“This will be his third race in 15 days, but he’s had an easy time in between and seems well in himself,” said the Lincolnshire trainer.

“It’s a decent Listed race with two horses rated 100 (Chapter And Verse) and (Suits Me) plus Gerard Butler’s three-year-old filly (Akhmatova) off 91 and with her 5lb fillies’ allowance.

“We’re badly in with some, but they’ve all got to turn up and perform and we have to see where we can go with the horse.

“We’ve got Tom (Queally) on board and he used to be our stable jockey until Henry Cecil tempted him away, so we’ve got a good history together.”

Gerard Butler is expecting a good run from the hat-trick-seeking Akhmatova. The daughter of Cape Cross has been in good form of late, winning handicaps over the course and distance at Lingfield and at Kempton last month.

“I think she’ll run very well, she likes it round Lingfield, we’ve a good man (Eddie Ahern) on board and I’m very hopeful,” said the Newmarket trainer.
