Leg One – 1355 Lingfield
This is probably the best race of the day, a Listed contest which features some very capable all-weather performers. Suits Me is now seven but at his best I think you’d need to look no further for the winner but it is a question of whether he retains all his ability. He has the highest official rating, likes to bowl along in front and acts very well on the course.
There are one or two improvers in against him notably Chapter And Verse, a close fourth in a similar event at Kempton the other day, and Franco Is My Name who is in very good form. He’s won his last two at Kempton and possibly doesn’t want to be in front too soon.
However perhaps the biggest improver is Gerard Butler’s fully Akhmatova who also won her last two starts and she gets weight all round.
Leg Two – 1405 Southwell
Silaah was second to Sir Geoffrey over five furlongs last time but isn’t certain to be as suited to six, especially at Southwell where it will take plenty of getting. Everymanforhimself would have a very good chance on his best form and the claimers he’s finished second in the last two starts were pretty good for the grade.
Bonny Prince Blue is in good form right now and Dark Lane is lightly raced from the Richard Fahey yard. He was hampered in the closing stages when fifth at Kempton last time.
Leg Three – 1430 Lingfield
This isn’t overly competitive and Kiss A Prince has won twice at the course recently, latterly beating Benhego into fourth place. That rival hasn’t had much racing though, could come on for the outing and has George Baker in the saddle which is a big plus. Jawaab won for Richard Guest at Southwell last time while Reverend Green was fourth to Franco Is My Name at Kempton and is capable of better.
Leg Four – 1440 Southwell
This is the best race on the Southwell card and Seek The Fair Land was second to Arteus at Lingfield two starts ago and then chased home Angel’s Pursuit at Kempton. This is a very different surface but he’s running well as is Sioux Rising but he steps up to seven furlongs on quite a testing surface. Of the others Nightjar has the best recent form having chased home Malcheek over course and distance last time.
Leg Five – 1505 Lingfield
Nothing to get too excited about here but Towny Boy has been in good form, Picansort won a miaden at Kempton while down at the bottom Thoughtsofstardom ran very well two starts ago. I saw him run at Kempton earlier this week when he could finish only eighth having raced up with the pace but that was over six furlongs and he has never won at that trip. He’s much better at five.
Leg Six – 1515 Southwell
This is a very ordinary affair. Cape Of Storms made all to win over course and distance last time, beating Sir Louis by three lengths and that rival’s five pound pull wouldn’t seem quite enough. Apache Ridge has been running well at Wolverhampton while Ace Of Spies is high in the weights but is another alternative.
