The Boys Girls Club of Lake Eufaula hosted its fourth annual Breakfast of Champions event Tuesday morning.
Event organizers honored volunteers and contributors to the program.
Chief Volunteer Officer Mary Barrows listed upcoming events for next year. The Boys Girls Club plans to hold a fundraising campaign in 2011. The campaign will focus on individual donations. The annual Steak and Burger Dinner will, therefore, focus on corporate sponsorship.
A charity golf tournament is also planned for 2011. Funds raised from this event will help pay for scholarships and also be used for the United Way of Greater Barbour County fund.
The club will also open a new site in Clayton next year. Barrows hopes to establish committees for various functions of the Eufaula club in an effort to attract more board members.
A newly renovated wing was completed this year at the Eufaula club and includes a dance studio, arts and crafts room and a room set aside for teenagers.
Regional Service Director Clyde McGuire spoke during the breakfast. He praised the progress that Eufaula’s club has made in the past year.
“It does my heart well to see your continuous improvement,” he said. “Especially when all around, I’m meeting with groups who are struggling because their community donations are down. Yours is thriving!”
The Eufaula club receives approximately $47,000 through state and federal programs each year. McGuire encouraged everyone present at the dinner to, “Go to your legislators, continue to share your story with them. We’re not the only good non-profit organization in town. So you have to keep telling your legislators about the success of this program. Keep doing what you are doing.”
Several volunteers and board members were honored at the meeting, including Andy Boyce, Pam Snead, Roy Crow, Ralph Bellamy, Jeff Mira and Vivian Erkins.
