P1 Engines Shows Trackside Support at SKUSA Supernationals
by Mike Maurini, Race Tech Development
Heading to the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SuperNationals in Las Vegas, P1 Engines listed two major event goals including; challenge for wins and to provide the best customer service possible. When the week was over and the dust had settled, P1 Engines once again stood on the podium with one of their more than fifteen motor rental packages.
“The SuperNationals is the premiere karting event in North America, if not the world,” expressed Jesus Vasquez, Owner and Engine Builder at P1 Engines. “With motor rentals in the double digits, I took the opportunity to increase our trackside support program to ensure our customers were at the front of the pack.”
With more than four hundred drivers in the paddock, thirty of them would use P1 prepared power plants in their search for SuperNats glory. With a trackside support van housing a full engine shop and repair facility, P1 Engines stood above the rest when it came to customer service.
P1 Engines did not disappoint on the track either as Canadian pilot Parker Thompson would lead the main event only to finish second after getting passed late in the race. With the podium, Thompson secured the SKUSA Pro Tour TaG Cadet Championship and the opportunity to race in Italy in 2011.
In the TaG Junior class, P1 Engines would supply power to more than ten pilots as several of them ran at the front of the pack. Claiming a fourth place finish in the main event was Tristan DeGrand while the drive of the race came from Mason Chelootz, who crashed early and drove through the forty kart field to finish 11th.
The same sort of recognition could be seen in the TaG Senior class as ten pilots would be aboard P1 power. While a few drivers ran the IAME Leopard, some the Rok TT and others on the Motori 7, almost all of them could be seen in the front half of the eighty kart field. Californian Gustavo Menezes would claim a pair of heat race wins with his P1 prepared Rok TT while Bobby Kelley and Nick Johnston would challenge for top five results in the heats leading up to Super Sunday.
Vasquez continued, “The SuperNats is one of the hardest events to win and though a lot of our front running pilots ran into trouble with on track incidents, I am happy with the progress of our company and our program in the past two seasons. P1 Engines proved that they have the necessary power to run with the world’s best.”
The month of December does not provide any downtime for the California based company as they are busy preparing for the World Karting Association event in Daytona Beach, Florida between Christmas and New Year’s. P1 Engines will also be relocating their engine building operation closer to home in order to support the local scene. Stay tuned for the news on the new location in the coming weeks.
With the opening round of the 2011 Manufacturer’s Cup program taking place on the grounds of the Daytona International Speedway, P1 Engines will travel from coast-to-coast to support customers.
