Truckee/Tahoe avalanche danger listed as moderate

TRUCKEE/TAHOE — While the small weekend storm brought another 1 to 2 feet of snow to the region, it also brought with it heightened danger for avalanches.

The Sierra Avalanche Center on Monday morning is reporting a moderate chance for avalanches, according to its website at sierraavalanchecenter.org.

“Isolated pockets of moderate avalanche danger exist on all aspects 35 degrees and steeper near and above treeline. Below treeline isolated pockets of moderate avalanche danger exist on NW-N-NE aspects on slopes 35 degrees and steeper,” the center reports.

A moderate rating is a 2 out of 5, according to the center, with 5 (extreme) presenting the highest probability for avalanches, and a 1 (low) presenting the lowest chance.
